SHRM Certification
Earning your SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP makes you a recognized expert and leader in the HR field — and Stateline SHRM is here to support you at every stage, from preparing for the exam to keeping your credential current.
Getting Certified
SHRM offers two levels of certification, both based on the SHRM Body of Applied Skills and Knowledge (SHRM BASK):
- SHRM-CP (Certified Professional) — for HR professionals in operational, day-to-day roles: implementing policies, serving as the HR point of contact, and performing day-to-day HR functions. No degree or prior experience is required, so it's a great fit for early-career professionals.
- SHRM-SCP (Senior Certified Professional) — for senior HR professionals in strategic roles: developing HR policies, directing the HR function, and aligning HR strategy with organizational goals. Requires at least three years of strategic-level HR experience, or holding the SHRM-CP for at least three years.

Exams are offered twice a year — May through mid-July and December through mid-February — at Prometric testing centers. Visit SHRM Certification → Credentials/Certification for current fees, application windows, and the Certification Handbook.
Earn PDCs at Stateline SHRM Events
Stateline SHRM is recognized by SHRM to offer Professional Development Credits (PDCs) for SHRM-CP® or SHRM-SCP® recertification activities. Many of our chapter meetings and programs qualify — eligible events note the PDC information when you register. See our Upcoming Events → Meeting Info and start earning credits close to home.
Keeping Your Certification Current
SHRM-CP and SHRM-SCP credential holders recertify every three years by earning 60 Professional Development Credits (PDCs) — or by retaking the exam. PDCs can be earned by advancing your education (conferences, seminars, webcasts, and chapter programs), advancing your organization (HR work projects), and advancing your profession (volunteering and thought leadership — including serving on the Stateline SHRM board!). Log your credits in your SHRM Certification Portal as you earn them.
